Email Shabana Mahmood: Reveal the true impact of experimental AI age-estimation for children seeking asylum now
You can find our privacy policy here.
The Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, wants to use experimental AI age estimation on children seeking safety in the UK – but is refusing to publish the official impact assessments of her plans.
This is urgent. The government already knows the system is racially biased and can’t accurately distinguish children from adults, but is pushing ahead with its plans regardless.
Before it’s too late, we need to know what the assessments say about the potential risks and harms of using this technology on some of the world’s most vulnerable children.
One email won’t change her mind, but a wave of emails will let her know this is urgent – the public wants the truth now.
We’ve drafted a template message to help you. Send it as it is if you’re short of time – but if you can, please put it in your own words. Personal emails will carry more weight.
A few suggestions:
- Keep it short. Five or six sentences is plenty.
- Be polite.
- Say who you are and why this matters to you.
